In December, 1959, Archbishop Leo Binz granted permission to Fr. Cyril Engler of Stone City to census the Springville area to determine whether there were Catholic families sufficient to support its own parish.
The Parish of St. Isidore was canonically erected in the Archdiocese of Dubuque on March 22, 1961, the Feast of St. Isidore the Farmer. At Fr. Engler's suggestion, the new parish was dedicated to God in honor of St. Isidore, the patron of farmers. Isidore and his wife, Maria, are honored as saints by the Church, and they are the patrons of farmers and of the National Catholic Rural Life Conference.
In April, 1961, the parish purchased 80 acres of ground for the sum of $80,000. On SUnday, May 21, 1961, the first Mass on the parish property was celebrated by Fr. Engler. Until a permanent structure was built, two Masses were celebrated every Sunday in a house located on the parish property north of the old Highway 151 (Dubuque Road). Later, that same house served as a rectory, and later, sold.
A certificate of Incorporation for the Parish of St. Isidore was issued by the State of Iowa November 17, 1961. The 1961 annual report to the Archdiocese listed 49 adult envelope holders. The 1962 annual report listed 225 members and 58 families in the parish.
Dedication of the St. Isidore Parish Hall took place on Sunday, July 8, 1962. The buildiing was blessed by the Most Reverend James J. Byrne, Archbishop of Dubuque. The cost of the Parish Hall was $32,500. The building was intended to include additions to the Parish Hall in the form of a church, school, rectory and a convent.
By 1986, over 100 families were registered with 400 members.
Construction of a new worship space began June, 1989. Dedication of the new church and renovated social hall was held December 17, 1989. The church and social hall was bricked in the Spring of 1994 and the parking lot blacktopped.
